It happens every year. We approach the end of winter and start thinking about cruises, spring breaks, baseball season, golfing and much, much more. Of course, we should probably be thinking also about the income tax filing deadline for returns or extensions, first quarter estimated tax payments, anticipating the tuition bill for the fall semester, and for investment advisers – finishing our annual disclosure updates. Human nature being what it is, the fun stuff is much more appealing to most of us than the necessities.
However, there are some significant advantages to taking care of business about your business no matter how tedious or boring that may be. And it is more than simply having the satisfaction (or absence of fear) that getting these things done brings. Working on these items may help you find things you can do not only to improve your own circumstances but perhaps to provide useful advice and assistance to your clients. Being on top of things can bring you new business form those who need that kind of guidance and effort you demonstrate. Finally getting to take that vacation, play a few rounds of golf and the like is so much more enjoyable when nothing is hanging over you.
Too simplistic or traditional for you? Then find satisfaction it taking that vacation or enjoying that game before you take time to get that business done. That might feel good, though perhaps not quite as good when you find yourself in a rush to get it done later or where your delay costs you a client or forces you to spend time and money on hiring a professional to bail you out.
So enjoy the season in the manner you prefer and if you can, take advantage of the season and give your business a boost.
