A Gift on Mother's Day

On the day that we stop for a moment to honor mothers – our mothers and grandmothers, the mothers of our children, our daughters who are mothers and mothers everywhere – there is something worth thinking about giving to the mothers in our lives. It is not the typical sort of gift such as free time, a massage or makeover, flowers, jewelry, a nice meal, or anything like that.
The gift you might consider is at once more serious and less fun. It is practical and often essential and may be a godsend in certain circumstances. It is the gift of ensuring that your loved ones – the mothers we are thinking of – are protected and assisted in the event they find themselves in need.
It may be as simple as your making a will that provides for the mothers in your life and makes the burden of your possibly untimely (and unplanned) loss more manageable both in financial terms and in moving forward without you. Likewise, it could be the purchase and gift of a life insurance policy or an annuity to that mother. Perhaps it might manifest as providing a home or long term care for an aging mother or even a college education for a younger mother.  Whatever it is, these ideas are gifts that may make a large difference in the lives of the mothers you love.
This type of gift idea is all about making life easier for a mother in a long term and meaningful way that is much more lasting than the usual kinds of gifts we hear about or see. It takes more thought and effort on your part than those popular gift ideas. It also tends to cost more. But it is this type of gift that will be remembered and helping that mother over the years.
